Call for Nominations – Male Athlete Representative

The Canadian Deaf Sports Association (CDSA) is seeking interested individuals for the volunteer position of Male Athlete Representative Position to sit on the CDSA Board of Directors. It is an advisory capacity position (no right to vote) and the representative will represent all Deaf and hard of hearing male athletes on Team Canada for a period of two (2) years (2018-2020).

General Purpose of the Position and Mandate

As a Male Athlete Representative on the CDSA Board of Directors and spokesperson for National Team male athletes, you play a critical role by helping athletes become part of the decision making process at the CDSA. The Male Athlete Representative will:

✓  Actively represent the interests and concerns of elite athletes;

✓  Share athletes’ opinion and advice to the CDSA Board of Directors with regarding current or future policies and programs; and

✓  Be available to take part in a least four (4) Board of Directors meetings, which is four weekends in different cities across Canada, including the Annual General Meeting. The first Board of Directors meeting will be held on the weekend of September 14th, 2018 in Edmonton.

Qualifications and Skills Required
Candidates for the position of Male Athlete Representative on the Board of Directors must be an active athlete on Team Canada defined as follows:

✓  Registered members in good standing with their Provincial Deaf Sports Association, who have competed in international competitions at an elite level either at the Deaflympics, Pan American Games for the Deaf or World Championships within the past four years; and

✓  Members have demonstrated their commitment to Team Canada and the Canadian Deaf Sports Association through volunteerism, leadership and dedication to their sport. The Male Athlete Representative shall have the qualities desired in all Team Canada athletes, and act as a role model to his peers.

  1. 1)  Describe your history as a Team Canada athlete.
  2. 2)  Explain why you are applying for the Male Athlete Representative position.
  3. 3)  Submit a letter of reference from a Provincial Deaf Sports Association and a recent copy of your resume.
